Blaenau Ffestiniog is a Retained Duty System (RDS) station.
RDS firefighters are skilled individuals who do ordinary jobs and offer evening, daytime and/or weekend cover.

Rehau Plastics, Trawsfynnydd and Tan-y-Grisiau Power Stations, Llechwedd Slate Quarry.
Care Homes - Bryn Blodau & Bryn Llywelyn, Llan Ffestiniog, Blaenau Memorial Hospital and Moelwyn Secondary School.
The surrounding mountains and forestry areas provide a constant risk to this rural station. The busy A470 road through Blaenau has many road traffic collisions throughout the year with busy traffic during the summer months and snow and ice during the winter months.

Blaenau Ffestiniog is a centrally situated Station with roads leading in a 360 degree direction to Betws-y-Coed, Ffestiniog, Trawsfynnydd, Dolgellau, Harlech and Porthmadog.
Station History:
The Fire Station was opened in July 1981.The Old Fire Station was situated right underneath Bwlch y Gwynt mountain but it was closed down due to loose rocks falling off the mountain thus making it unsafe to use. The new station was initially meant to be a two pump bay station and two storeys high, but plans were changed.
