Dolgellau is a Retained Duty System (RDS) station.
RDS firefighters are skilled individuals who do ordinary jobs and offer evening, daytime and/or weekend cover.
Geographical Area covered:
Dolgellau Station's northern boundary is Bronaber, its southern boundary is Corris, its east boundary is Rhudymain and the western boundary is Arthog and Bontddu. The county border of Gwynedd is at Dinas Mawddwy.
Sites of risk:
No specific sites of risk but Dolgellau do respond to a high number of road traffic collision incidents.
Station history:
The station was originally planned as the headquarters for Meirionydd Fire Service- however, due to amalgamation it never fulfilled its planned use.
Built in 1975 and opened in 1976 by O.G. Roberts, Dolgellau Fire Station was originally located at Lion Yard.
Work in the community:
The Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and the Citizens Advice Bureau both have bases on the station.
The Station has strong links with the local community and hosts a number of local initiatives including a monthly 'Clwb Cinio' (lunch club for pensioners) and provides a base for the 'Keep well this winter' event where local people attend to have their flu jabs and find out more about winter safety.
They also open up their 'Community garden' to local groups such as the Brownies who are able to gain experience working in the gardens.
'Pass Plus' seesions are also held on station twice a year
Dolgellau Fire Station are also keen supporters of The Fire Fighters Charity and support the National Car Wash events.
