Arson Reduction Intervention Privacy Notice
The use and disclosure of personal data is governed in the United Kingdom by the Data Protection Act 2018 (the Act). In order to effectively deliver our services North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) may need to process your personal data.
Welsh Government, along with the three Fire and Rescue Services in Wales have a strategy which sets out the vision for delivering intervention activities to children and young persons. These activities help young people to stay safe.
NWFRS hope to bring a positive influence to young persons with the ultimate aim of reducing anti-social behaviour and fire safety concerns.
Why do we need to process your information?
We have obligations under the Fire and Rescue Service Act 2004 which include the promotion of fire safety through provision of information and advice and safeguarding. In order to meet these requirements we offer intervention activities to children and other young persons. The use of personal information is required in order for us to deliver these programmes. We will also use this information to record and evaluate our work and the success of the programme. We may also assist you to contact other organisations which may be of benefit to you.
What types of personal data do we process?
In order to register a person on one of our activities and to deliver it appropriate and safely we will process some personal data about you. This includes name, address, image, date of birth, personal details and contact information for parent/guardians, personal characteristics such as ethnicity, gender and any disability, any special educational or behavioural needs, images and moving footage of individuals engaging in activities (with appropriate consent only), CCTV (whilst being transported in NWFRS vehicles), details of intervention undertaken and wellbeing and any other lifestyle issue that may impact upon your personal safety.
Where do we get the personal data we process?
Information may be provided by you, your parent/guardian(s) or by referral from another agency such as the police or local authority.
What is our lawful basis for processing personal data?
Our lawful basis for processing your data for this purpose is found in the UK GDPR Article 6(1)(c) Necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject. This is because we are required to provide fire safety advice. Any special category data we capture is also processed under Article 9 2(g) substantial public interest on the basis of the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004.
What security measures do we use when processing your personal data?
We take our data processing responsibilities seriously and only record the minimal amount of information necessary for the required purpose. Your information will be recorded on our secure computer system which is password protected and subject to NWFRS information security protocols and policies.
What disclosures do we make of your personal data?
NWFRS has a responsibility to promote social wellbeing and to prevent harm. In order to develop and improve our service and to ensure that you get the appropriate assistance we may share your details with other relevant organisations. This could include community organisations and charities, local authority social care and educational services, police and the health services.
In most cases we are unlikely to share your personal information and you will be made aware of a referral if we do, unless it is not in your best interests to do so when considering yours or others safety.
How long do we retain your personal data?
We will hold your data for the duration of your engagement with us and will retain it until you leave our service plus 7 years. If CCTV images are captured within our vehicles this will only be stored for a short period of time and in most cases are overwritten the following day.
