Whirlpool recall
Whirlpool has recalled a number of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines made between 2014 and 2018.
The washing machines pose a fire risk due to a fault with the door lock. This does not affect Whirlpool branded machines.
If a washing machine is found to be affected the customer has a choice between having a repair or a replacement machine. Even if you did not purchase your machine from new it should still be checked. These machines will still be repaired or replaced.
How to check your washing machine
You need to find the model number and serial number of the machine - these can be found in the door recess as indicated below.
You will also find this information on the back of the machine if you are able to access it.
Once you have this information you need to contact whirlpool either online https://washingmachinerecall.whirlpool.co.uk/ or by calling their free helpline, open every day on 0800 316 1442.
If you experience any problems identifying your machine call the helpline for assistance 0800 316 1442.
Your machine will then be registered with Whirlpool and you will have confirmation if the washing machine is one of those affected.
If the machine is part of the recall Whirlpool will contact you to arrange a repair or replacement.
We advise people to unplug and not use their washing machines if they have been recalled.
We also encourage people to assist friends or relatives if they need support in checking and reporting washing machines to Whirlpool.
