Llandudno hotel owner charged with compromising safety of guests

Posted

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has been working to ensure that a hotel in Llandudno meets the required legislation in relation to fire safety.

It came to the attention of business fire safety officers that the Ambassador Hotel was not complying with the required regulations.

Earlier this month (16th December) Mr Nigel Williams of the Ambassador Hotel pleaded guilty at Llandudno Magistrates Court to two charges under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety ) Order 2005 of failing to provide a suitable fire alarm system in the premises and failing to maintain and service both the existing fire alarm system and the emergency lighting system.

He received fines and cost against him of over £8,000. The Magistrate said that these were serious offences and that the safety of guests and staff should be paramount.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service will work proactively with business to ensure an adequate level of fire safety is achieved through its audit and education programmes.

Senior Fire Safety Manager Stuart Millington said: “When business owners put their staff and guests at risk of harm from fire and fail repeatedly to improve their safety standards, it is our duty to work to prosecute those who fail to protect others and to ensure the highest levels of safety for the public.”
