Taxi firms driving home ‘Don’t drink and cook!’ message this Christmas
PostedTaxi firms in Conwy are working with North Wales Fire and Rescue Service over the Christmas period to help drive home potentially life saving messages to their customers.
Castle cabs, Conwy and Alliance Taxi, Llandudno will be including a ‘Stay safe! Don’t cook after a night out!’ message within all their text messages to customers and handing out bottled water branded with the same message to revellers returning home after their Christmas celebrations.
Kevin Jones, Community Safety Manager for Conwy and Denbighshire, explains:
“Around half of the fires in the home we attend are cooking related –and many of these fires happen after people have been drinking. Also, the number of incidents can rise over the Christmas period.
"Drinking and cooking simply don't mix - alcohol can cause people to become oblivious to danger. This message is particularly important at this time of year as many may be drinking alcohol while celebrating the festive season.
“Countless fires are caused each year by people returning home from the pub and deciding to cook a snack for themselves before going to bed. My advice is to play it safe - prepare a snack before you go out or pick up a take away on the way home instead.
“We’re thrilled to be working with these local firms to communicate these important messages, and we look forward to building on these relationships in the new year and beyond.
“I’d also like to remind residents of the importance of making sure they are protected should the worst happen and a fire breaks out in your home - a working smoke alarm is essential to safeguard the safety of you and your family. Please check yours by pressing the 'test' button to keep you and your family safe.”
The campaign will start on Friday, 9TH of December and will be running for two weeks.
