Working in partnership with Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team to protect our communities

Posted

Following a rise in the number of calls received by the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team (Ogwen MRT) in the Conwy valley, a new partnership has seen the rescue team utilising a disused building at Conwy Fire Station as a base.

The partnership came about after local discussions between Conwy based Ogwen MRT team member Dave Brown and Conwy Watch Manager Andy Lambert.

Dave explains: “The Ogwen MRT covers a large area of northern Snowdonia with the bulk of call outs in and around the Ogwen Valley. However, we are getting increasing numbers of call outs on our Northern boundary.

“We have a number of members who live in the lower Conwy valley and who can readily assist at these incidents. However, before this partnership they would have to wait for a loaded vehicle to be brought from our base in the Ogwen valley.

“This new equipment store helps facilitate rapid deployment of our resources at local incidents, allowing us to attend time critical incidents as quickly as possible.

Andy added: “This is a great example of how sharing resources and working in partnership can help protect our communities.

“We had a disused store at the station, which proved to be the perfect place for Ogwen MRT to store their equipment to enable them to respond quickly to incidents in the area.

“We’re proud to support, collaborate and share our resources with our emergency service partners at Ogwen MRT and look forward to supporting and training together in the future.

“It’s great to see partnership working in action making a real difference to the safety of our communities.”
