Diamond Jubilee - Celebrate Safely
PostedTo mark 60 years of The Queen's reign events celebrating the Diamond Jubilee will take place all over Wales over the next few days.
Gareth Griffiths, Senior Fire Safety Manager is appealing to the residents of North Wales to celebrate safely. He said: "If you are hosting or attending a Diamond Jubilee event, it may be all too easy to get swept up in the excitement and forget about the importance of keeping safe.
"However, keeping safety at the forefront of your mind and planning for all eventualities will help keep you and your guests safe and happy."
Here are Gareth's tips to help make it a day to remember for all the right reasons:
• Make sure that the event is planned safely
• Complete a risk assessment before the event and reduce any risks that you identify
• Take care when using a barbecue: ensure it's in good working order and in a safe place away from anything that can catch light or where people are walking past. Only use approved barbecue fuel and NEVER leave it unattended. Pour water on embers to cool them down and empty ash onto bare garden soil, never into a bin. Barbecues are for outdoor use only. Do not use them indoors. Please be carbon monoxide aware.
• If the great British weather lets us down and you have to move your party indoors, don't put bunting or streamers over smoke detectors or close to light fittings which can get hot.
• When putting out tables and chairs, think carefully about how fire engines and other emergency vehicles will get through if they need to and make sure you don't block access
Gareth added: "If you are lighting a beacon as part of the celebrations then you need to register your event at http://www.diamondjubileebeacons.co.uk/.
"Please also let us know on 01745535805 if you are planning to light a beacon, as this will avoid us sending fire engines to false alarms."
