Local charities benefit from Rhyl bonfire proceeds

Local charities have received a total of £4500 raised during the annual bonfire and fireworks display held in Rhyl on the 5th of November, 2013.

Staff from Rhyl Community Fire Station headed over to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd recently to present staff at the Cuddles Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) with two new plasma televisions, purchased with a percentage of the money raised.

SCUBU Manager, Mandy Cooke, said: "We've so grateful to the organisers of the firework and bonfire display and to all those who attended and donated so generously."

The other charities who received the donations included St Kentigern Hospice, International Fire and Rescue Association, Tŷ Gobaith, Belief, Rhyl Gateway Club, Rhyl NSPCC, Rhyl Sequence Dancing Club, Kinmel Bay Dance Club, 1st Meliden Brownies, 1st Meliden Guides, Cylch Meithrin Rhuddlan, Cylch Meithrin Tremeirchion, Rhyl and Prestatyn Gymnastics Club, Friends of Renal Care Glan Clwyd, SPAN (Denbighshire), The Fire Fighters Charity, St John Ambulance and the Young Firefighters Association Prestatyn.

Kev Warner, Watch Manager at Rhyl Community Fire Station, said: "The turn out for this year's fireworks display was great and I would like to thank each and every person attending for making it possible for us to donate to these worthy charities.

"We are proud to be working with the residents ofNorth Walesto keep them as safe as possible, and seeing the money going back into the community makes all the organisation and hard work worthwhile.

"Our priority is to keep our residents safe - and attending organised displays is a good way to keep safe during fireworks season. At this time of year, it's important to keep fire safety in the home at the forefront of your mind.

"We at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service offer free home fire safety checks for all residents in North Waleswhere a member of the Service will visit your home to give fire safety hints and tips and fit new smoke alarms where necessary.
