Blaenau residents benefit from partnership visits

Posted

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police have come together once again in great partnership working to offer residents in the Blaenau Ffestiniog area free joint home fire safety checks and reassurance visits featuring crime prevention advice with regards to home security.

John Paul Williams, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service's Home Safety Support Worker and Emma Jones, North Wales Police's Community Support officer for Blaenau Ffestiniog, have conducted several joint visits in the Blaenau Ffestiniog and Tanygrisiau area.

John Paul Williams from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, explained: "We have been offering free home fire safety checks to residents across North Wales for a number of years, and thousands of people have taken advantage of this free service to keep them and their homes as safe as possible from fire. As well as fitting free smoke alarms where necessary, a member of the Service will also help you to formulate a fire escape plan, go through the importance of a night time routine and give general hints and tips on fire safety in the home.

"Through working with Emma on a local level, we identified that many of the people having the check undertaken, especially the elderly living alone, would also like additional information and reassurance from our partners, North Wales
Police.

"We've had brilliant feedback from members of the public following the joint visits
we've undertaken and we look forward to undertaking more similar visits in the
future."

Emma Jones, Community Support Officer for North Wales Police, added: "These joint visits are aimed at making local residents feel a bit safer in their own home.
Following the free home fire safety check, a local Police Community Support
Officer will conduct a reassurance visit with the opportunity for residents to
have their own neighbourhood surgery in the privacy of their own home and ask
questions that maybe wouldn't be asked on the streets. The visits are all about
reassurance and answering any questions residents may have.

"It's great to make connections on a local level like this and we're proud to be
working in partnership to protect our community."
