Phoenix fires up the youth of Wrexham

Posted

Yet another successful ending to an eventful Phoenix course took place on Friday, June 12th in Chirk Fire Station, Wrexham.

9 youngsters between the ages of 13-16 took part, completing the course which runs over the course of a week, culminating in a thrilling end of day show in which the young firefighters are required to demonstrate their new firefighting skills in front of an audience made up of parents, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service staff members, and their peers.

During the course, the teenagers will experience a wide range of activities which are essential attributes to every firefighter; teamwork, following orders, quick thinking, bravery, and the ability to learn challenging skills quickly.

Chirk Fire Station was proud to host 9 pupils from Ysgol Rhosnesni in Wrexham, Ysgol Bryn Alun, Gwersyllt and Ysgol Ruabon, Ruabon for the week of activities.

Senior Fire Safety Manager Stuart Millington, who attended the final day of the course, said: "It is always a pleasure to attend the passing out parade with the Phoenix team, and to present the individuals taking part with their certificates of completion.

"Knowing how far they've come during the week's training, hearing the ways in which they've developed over such a short period of time gives me a great sense of pride, and is proof that the project is a successful one, and is an effective one.

"We hope now that these young people won't forget their experiences over the past week, and will begin to utilize their new found skills and confidence, in all walks of life, helping them to become stronger people."
