Fire at a property in Nercwys
PostedEmergency services have attended a fire in Nercwys near Mold.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to a report of a fire at an address on Ffordd Pen y Bryn, Nercwys at 21.51 hrs yesterday evening (Monday 8th January)
Four appliances attended the incident, two from Deeside and one from Mold and Buckley. Four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were used to tackle the fire which was confined mainly to the thatched roof of the property.
The thatched roof was well alight on the arrival of fire crews and a man in his 50s had already made his way out of the property.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The majority of the thatched roof was damaged in the incident.
Residents with thatched roofs are advised to ensure their property has appropriate chimney insulation, to have the chimney inspected by a qualified chimney engineer and to consider a chimney spark arrester. It is also important to have smoke alarms installed throughout the home with an interlinked alarm in the loft space.
